A thorough exam, advanced eye measurements, and a personal conversation about your vision goals. Dr. Okogbaa confirms cataract surgery is right for you and helps you choose your lens.
Pre-Operative Planning Visit
Our surgical coordinator walks you through your lens choice, expected costs, financing, medications to stop, drops to start, and transportation home.
Stopping Blood Thinners
If you take blood thinners, your prescribing physician may ask you to stop them temporarily. We'll coordinate with your other doctors.
Starting Eye Drops
With our modern surgical approach, antibiotic medication is delivered directly in the eye during surgery. This simplifies your post-operative drop schedule. A short course of anti-inflammatory and steroid drops is still used to support healing.
Arriving at the Surgery Center
Performed at Regional Eye Surgery Center (7777 Hennessey Blvd, Suite 5000, Baton Rouge). Plan to arrive about an hour before your scheduled procedure.
During the Procedure
You'll be comfortable and gently sedated. Dr. Okogbaa removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with your chosen IOL — 15 to 20 minutes per eye.
Going Home
You'll rest in recovery briefly, then go home the same day. You'll need someone to drive you. Most patients feel fine within hours.
The First Day
Rest your eye. Avoid strenuous activity. Use the prescribed eye drops as instructed. Most patients have only mild scratchiness or light sensitivity.
The First Week
Vision typically improves rapidly. You'll be seen for a follow-up appointment to confirm healing is on track.
Long-Term Care
Continue your prescribed drops as instructed. Attend all scheduled follow-up visits. Most patients return to normal activities within 1 to 2 weeks.
